Christmas Letter 2009

Since I am not able to mail our Christmas letter out to EVERYONE (that would cost A LOT of money in stamps!!). Here it is for everyone to read :)

Hello everyone! December 2009

Every year I look forward to writing our Christmas letter, but this year I have been procrastinating it because it has been a pretty difficult year for us. All in all we have had a lot of good things happen along with the not so good things, though.

Our biggest and best thing that happened this year was the birth of Caleb Anthony! What an absolute JOY this little boy has been and it was definitely a year that we needed it. After going into labor 2 days before my scheduled c-section, he was born at 8:10am on Saturday March 14th. He was 8lbs. 8 oz. and 19 inches long. He is a total mama’s boy, but does love his time with daddy as well. He and Jacob already have so much fun together and I can tell they are going to be close. It’s fun to watch their relationship start to develop, even this early on in their little lives. He is just starting to think about crawling so I am preparing for life to get a little more interesting with 2 mobile boys.

Jacob turned 2 in August and is really talking up a storm. He learns about 2-3 new words a day now and it is amazing to watch him develop his language skills. It’s also making for communicating with him much nicer. He still has certain words that only I can understand, but it just means I have to “interpret” a lot. Being able to communicate with your child is an amazing feeling. He is growing like a weed right now. I think both of our boys are going to follow the Miller genes and end up nice and tall. We’ll see! He is such an amazing little boy and we feel very lucky to be his parents.

Matthew is a senior in high school this year. We can’t believe he is almost done with high school and getting ready to move onto college. After a little coaxing from Cale (my brother), Joe and myself, he filled out an early application to University of Arizona and he received his early acceptance in November. He is very excited and we are just trying to keep him on track to finish with good grades so that he can make his dream of being a Wildcat come true!

Joe is still working in IT at The Cobalt Group. He is really enjoying his job and they seem to be doing well and are actually hiring people, which is a good sign in this economy. They went through a bit of a re-structure that shook up his department a little bit, but his job seems to be secure which is a very good thing. On January 4th, 2009, he will celebrate 2 years since his surgery and he has lost about 175 pounds in those last 2 years. He is looking and feeling really good. He has been working on getting Jacob his ski equipment so that he can start teaching him to ski. We were actually able to take Jacob up to the mountain for the first time a few weeks ago (we had a really early snow dump, which was fun!). He absolutely loved skiing and I think it is going to be something that the two of them will do for many years. I know Joe is anxious to get Caleb up there as well, but he has about 2 years to go before that is going to happen J.

I have had a very interesting year. About 1 week before I was due to have Caleb, I found out that I was going to lose my job. I was given about 5 days notice and my last day of work ended up being 2 days before I went into labor with Caleb. I had been with my boss for almost 3 years and we had been through a lot together and had become very close. She had been at the company for 22 years, so it really shook people up. It was pretty devastating to both of us. Since I was about to have Caleb, there wasn’t much I could do so we just rolled with it. We pulled Jacob out of a bad daycare situation and I was really enjoying being home with the boys, although we were pretty dependant on my salary. I started thinking about going back to work, but in order to put both of our kids into a good daycare, it just didn’t make financial sense. I started thinking about going back to school for nursing and when I talked to Joe about it, he was 100% supportive. So…after a lot of soul searching, we decided to do it. We had to move out of the only home our boys had ever known and into a VERY small rental house in order to make this happen, but we know that it will be worth it in the end. Thankfully I was able to transfer all of my credits from Portland so I don’t have too many left before I can transfer to a University by Spring 2011 and am hoping to transfer into a nursing program in Fall 2011. We are very lucky to have found an amazing “pseudo grandma and grandpa” who are watching the boys for us 2 days a week. Both of the boys love Lynnie (MiMi) and Larry (Papa) and we are so blessed to have found them. Going back to school has been a big sacrifice for our family, but we know it will be worth it in the end. An education is a priceless thing.

Even though this has been a very trying year for us, we have many things to be thankful for and I am extremely thankful that Joe and I have built such an amazing and strong little family.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!!

Caleb is 9 Months Old!

Caleb turned 9 months old this week and although I am sad that my baby is growing up, it is really fun watching him start to be more mobile and really get in there and play with his brother. We got his pictures taken today and he did REALLY good considering it was during morning nap time. We got our favorite lady, though, so that made things even better.

His stats are:
18 lbs. 14oz. (22%)
29 inches (70%)

Here are Jacob's stats for comparison:
21 lbs. 2 oz. (65%)
29.75 (95%)

As you can see, Caleb is a little thinner than Jacob was. The doctor isn't too concerned, but we are watching it a little bit. I just think Caleb will take after the Miller side of the family and is going to be tall and skinny!!!

and for comparison purposes...here was Jacob's 9 Month wagon shot!

A Visit with Santa

Since Jacob was about 4 months old we have taken him to see Santa. We always go to a local mall to visit the "real" Santa! The last 2 years Jacob has been an angel and smiled perfectly. This year we knew was probably not going to be the case. We actually were prepared for BOTH kids to freak because Caleb has had really bad stranger anxiety. Especially with men. So...we stood in line for over an hour waiting for our turn to sit on santa's lap. Here are a few pictures from that...

Caleb in the stroller by himself.

Jacob doesn't pose for pictures very much anymore. He is a moving target. This is the best I could get of them together :)

Looking at all the toys in Santa's workshop.

Caleb and Daddy! What cute boys!!!!

Trying to touch Santa's toys!

Caleb and Mommy!

Then...it was our turn to see Santa...I will let the picture explain itself...

Oh boy. Jacob FREAKED like I have never seen him freak before and Caleb was totally fine! WHAT?!?! Joe grabbed Jacob after the picture was done and as they were walking away Jacob yelled "bye bye Ho-Ho!" as the tears were streaming down his face. He really WANTED to like Santa, but it just didn't happen this year.

Christmas Cookies with Lisa and Owen

Every Friday my VERY good friend Lisa and I have a standing play date with our boys who are only 3 days apart. Last week we decided to be REALLY brave and do Christmas cookies with them. We had a BLAST and so did the boys!!!! And thank you, Lisa for allowing us to destroy your kitchen and floors with the mess ;) LOVE YOU!!!!

Caleb was getting himself all ready in his chair :) I just adore his smile...
\
The big boys on their big stools all ready to go!!!

Jacob got to crack the first egg.

Owen got to crack the next one.

They loved the part where they got to pound and play with the dough.

Who is that cute boy???

Time to frost our cookies!

Owen was a GOOD froster!!

Caleb tried to help frost the cookies too. The knife got a little close to his eye...

The end product! Notice....we let them do the cut-outs, so some of the men have a missing arm and some of the trees have missing limbs....they had soooo much fun, though!!!!

A fun day at the Key's house!!

Christmas Tree Hunting

Last weekend we went on our Christmas tree hunt. We have gone to the same place for 5 years now and we love it. We have had a VERY VERY cold week this week. Beautiful sunny skies, but temperatures in the teens. We bundled the boys up and headed out to hunt for the perfect Christmas tree. This Christmas has been amazing with Jacob. It's as though we are getting to live through our 2.5 year old's eyes and see Christmas for the first time. He loves the lights, he loves the trees, he loves the santas and especially all the music and dancing. He LOVED getting the tree and here are the pictures to prove it :)

Caleb in the stroller. Jacob uses it about 1/2 the time!

Brother pic!

We found the perfect tree. Now daddy just has to cut it down!!!

Jacob was fascinated with the whole chopping down the tree concept.

All done chopping...now how do we get this thing home, dad??

There's the big tractor that carries it to the car for us!

We have one STRONG daddy!!!

Helping dad put the tree on the truck.

Self portrait to prove that mommy was there too :)

Our cute little monkey "driving" the car while daddy tied the tree down.

Our cute little bug!!! I LOVE his eyes...
